Kampala, Uganda, August 30th 2025 – dfcu Bank has today officially launched the first corporate Rotary club in Uganda, under the name Rotary Club of Kampala, Blue Hearts, during a Charter Ceremony held at dfcu’s Head Offices in Nakasero.
The ceremony was presided over by the Guest of Honour, Xavier Ssentamu, the past District Governor for Rotary, who inducted the bank staff as he emphasized the importance of serving humanity with integrity.
As part of the partnership, dfcu Bank has injected UGX 1 billion over the next three years to support Rotary Uganda in strengthening health initiatives across Uganda. These mobile health camps will provide general consultations, maternal and child health services, immunization support, screening for non-communicable diseases like hypertension and diabetes, cancer screenings (breast, cervical, and prostate), eye and dental care, family planning, HIV testing and counselling, nutrition counselling, and special focus on sickle cell anaemia.
Speaking during the Charter Ceremony, Charles M. Mudiwa, the CEO dfcu Bank, said, ‘’ Today is a historic day for us as we celebrate two achievements. First, we launched the very first corporate Rotary Club in Uganda called the dfcu Rotary Club of Blue Hearts. Second, we have formalised our partnership with Rotary Uganda through a commitment of one billion shillings over the next three years.
‘’At dfcu Bank, our purpose is clear,” To transform lives and businesses in Uganda”. Personally, I became a banker because of Rotary. This partnership isn’t just about doing good for today, it’s about making an impact, creating change, and shaping a better future for our country. Rotary gives us a platform to make that difference’’, he added.
In his remarks, Shem Nnaggenda, the Club advisor for the Rotary Club of Kampala Blue Hearts, said, ‘’This club is special, as it is the first institution-based Rotary club to be established in Uganda, a true milestone for the Rotary movement in our country. I feel privileged to have been entrusted with this responsibility to guide and support its growth.
He added, ‘’The leadership of dfcu Bank has recognized the immense value of Rotary’s work and found it worthwhile to engage directly with Rotary Uganda. dfcu is well known for its passion and commitment to transforming communities across Uganda. This aligns perfectly with the Rotary vision, which is to transform lives and uplift communities through service guided by our seven areas of focus, which include providing clean Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, Save Mothers and Children, Support Local Economies, protect the Environment, Support Education, and Fight Diseases. The sponsorship package made by dfcu Bank today to Rotary Uganda is one of the largest single endowments ever made to a Rotary program in Uganda, and is specifically directed towards supporting Rotary’s medical camp initiatives.
Healthcare remains one of the most critical needs in several communities across Uganda. Rotary has long been known for organizing impactful interventions such as Family Health Days and medical outreach camps, which bring essential health services closer to those in need. With dfcu’s unprecedented financial support, these initiatives will be significantly strengthened, enabling Rotary to reach more communities, provide more services, and ultimately save more lives.
