Stephen Odoya Chomi is a highly rated legal services professional with over 25 years’ experience in corporate law and governance. Prior to joining dfcu Bank, Stephen enjoyed a long tenure at Vivo Energy Uganda Limited (formerly Shell Uganda Limited) where he served as the Head of Legal & Company Secretary from 2007 to July 2025 and at Mukwano Industries Uganda Limited where he was Legal Manager from 2000 to 2007.
Stephen’s career boasts of strategic transactional and compliance mandates including Vivo Energy Group’s acquisition of a 100% stake in Shell Uganda Limited. In notable dispute resolution mandates, Stephen has demonstrated a strong track record in minimizing business impact and exposure in high profile cases. Noteworthy examples include securing a multi-million-dollar commercial settlement for Vivo Energy Uganda Limited and enabling a cost-efficient divestment of the Shell Group from Shell Uganda Limited by securing a court order for the transfer of shares.
Stephen’s strong stakeholder capabilities have enabled him to navigate sensitive legal complexities and maintain progressive and strategic business relations both in the private and public / governmental sphere.
Stephen is a qualified Advocate of the High Court of Uganda. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre in Kampala and an LL.B Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania
