Senior Database Administrator  (1 Position)

Reporting to the Database Operations Manager, the role is responsible for providing senior database administration expertise and support for the Bank’s ICT database infrastructure.

The role is focused on creating and maintaining database environments in a proactive manner and resolving incidents/responding to service requests.

This role provides database operations support in accordance with the data governance framework and is critical in the identification of sources of golden records.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • To execute procedures for database operations, maintenance, security, archiving and recovery.
  • Provide substantive input to systems Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity plan and ensuring proper fail over setup plans.
  • Effective database license management. All database licenses must be optimally used and decommission unused database servers to avoid costs above budget. 
  • To analyze business application requirements and develop specifications for databases construction and maintenance.
  • Maintains up-to-date documentation of all enterprise databases operations manuals and procedures.
  • Monitors the status of end-of-cycle activities including backups ensuring compliance with schedules Critical server Uptime.
  • Investigate problems with databases and end-of-cycle runs, ensure appropriate corrective action, or escalate problems as appropriate.
  • Act as liaison for vendors as they support complex database-related issues, systems, and implementation projects.
  •  Address a variety of database integration issues including synchronization between disparate databases, integration, maintenance/conversion, capacity planning issues, and new applications.
  • Contribute to the setting of standards for database and ensures conformance to these standards.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • A University Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology or Computer Engineering from a reputable institution.
  • Oracle Certified Professional Qualification and or Microsoft Certified Database Administrator.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Server Operating Systems and UNIX i.e., SOLARIS & Linux.
  • Excellent experience in system scripting, such as PERL, PYTHON, Shell, etc.
  • Knowledge of SQL and database management Systems is a must
  • Experience working with open-source RDBMS e.g., MySQL.
  • ITIL Foundation training. 
  • 5+ years’ working experience preferably with a financial institution in database administration and data center management.
  • Experience with multiple storage and backup subsystems.
  • Experience of SQL Server Replication/Load balancing/High Availability.
  • Full understanding of enterprise change management processes.
  • Ability to quickly assess organizational needs relative to databases and datacenter problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and in verbal discussions with users.
  • Good working knowledge of banking systems, operations, and processes.
  • Knowledge of SQL Server storage design, Data Warehousing, Reporting and Integration Services.
  • Self-motivated team player with the ability to adapt and work co-operatively and effectively in different situations and teams to carry out assigned tasks maintain a positive attitude under stress conditions.
  • Disposition to share knowledge fully and willingly with other employees in the interest of the organization.
  • Team leadership experience.
  • A good understanding of SQL and Oracle Licensing requirements and licensing terms.
